Loved Ones

In life there are times when you come to realize how valuable and special your friends and family really are. I am usually very aware of this and feel so thankful and blessed to have the friends and family that I have, however, recent events have reminded me of this truth even more.

About a week ago, my little 8-year-old cousin, Catherine, passed away from cancer. She fought this battle hard and long and was really suffering towards the end. Going through this as a parent and as a sibling is something that I cannot even imagine. I had the opportunity this past weekend to visit with Catherine's family and show my support, but words in this situation are just so difficult.

Also, my friend Leah's brother and sister-in-law passed away unexpectedly this past week when their apartment caught on fire. This too is unfathomable and so devastating.

As depressing as this sounds, we truly never know when our time will end or when the lives of those around us will, so it is of uttermost importance to truly appreciate and cherish the love and time that we have. These events have been a wake up call to me that there is no guarantee that we have tomorrow and that all we can do is live for today and in the present.

Luckily, we do not have to fear because one day we will be reunited again on the other side of heaven, but for now let's live in the moment and appreciate those around us.
